Christian Democratic Popular Party (PPCDM) – The PPCDM is traditionally an opposition, pro-Romanian party. The party launched mass protests in January 2002 against the government's decision to make the study of Russian compulsory in primary schools. Following the protests, Moldovan authorities temporarily suspended the PPCDM's activities. It led to new protests and accusations that the ruling party had taken antidemocratic actions. In the last legislative elections on March 6, 2005, the party won 9.1% of the popular vote and 11 out of 101 seats. It is an observer member of the European People's Party (EPP).

In the 17th century, Croatian soldiers used to wear a little piece of cloth around their neck. In France, people were enthusiastic about it and adopted this fashion, calling the piece of cloth “de Croat” (of Croatians). That is where the actual name of “cravatta” (necktie) is deriving from.
