At present Coalition for Bulgaria is one of the three ruling parties in the country. The coalition comprises eight left-wing parties led by the Bulgarian Socialist Party. In the last elections held in June 2005, the coalition won 30.95% of the popular vote and 82 of the 240-seat National Assembly. At the elections for Members of the European Parliament it won five seats out of 18. The Bulgarian Socialist Party, formed in 1990, is successor of the Bulgarian Communist Party. It is member of the Socialist International and the Party of the European Socialists. The party is led by Sergei Stanishev, who is the Prime Minister of Bulgaria.
