December 5 (SeeNews) - Conservative VMRO-DPMNE party leads main opposition Social Democrats ahead of the early parliamentary elections scheduled for December 11, according to local media reports citing results of two separate opinion polls.
A poll conducted by Macedonian Heritage Institute Pavel Shatev showed that the ruling VMRO-DPMNE party would win 27.8% of the vote, whereas the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) would be supported by 16.2% of the voters, Kurir.mk news website reported on Monday.
The results of the poll showed that ethnic Albanian Democratic Union of Integration (DUI), which governed in coalition with VMRO-DPMNE before Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski resigned earlier this year to open the way for early elections, will obtain 4.8% of the votes. Opposition ethnic Albanian Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA) has the support of 2.3% of the voters.
Among those polled, 28.9% said they would not vote at all, while 13.9% said they did not know which party to support.
The survey was conducted over phone among 1090 respondents between November 30 and December 2 .
Another poll, conducted by Skopje-based Agencija Rejting, showed 29.9% support for VMRO-DPMNE, while SDSM followed close second with 28.5%, news website 24 Vesti reported on Friday.
According to the results of Agencija Rejting's survey, DUI would win 6.8% of the vote, whereas DPA would receive 2.8% support.
Undecided voters were 8.5% of the respondents, whereas 12% declined to disclose their preference, 24 Vesti reported. The survey was conducted among 1,200 respondents in the period November 24-November 30.
Macedonia will hold early general elections on December 11 as part of the Przino agreement, a deal brokered by the EU with the aim to resolve a prolonged political crisis in Macedonia.
