October 13 (SeeNews) - A joint venture comprising Turkish companies Intekar Yapi and ASL won a 17 billion leks ($160.4 million/138.9 million euro) tender for the construction of Llogara road tunnel in the southwestern region of Vlora, the infrastructure ministry said.
Besides the winning candidate, a JV comprising Egypt-based Concord Engineering and Albanian companies Alb Building and Alb Star, local firm Albanian Glob Affaire, Turkish-based Limak as well as Power Construction Corporation of China also submitted offers in the tender, the infrastructure ministry said in a tender notice published by the public procurement agency.
The construction of the six-kilometre tunnel is expected to be completed within 37 months from the singing of the contract, the infrastructure ministry added.
In September, Albania selected a proposal submitted by a joint venture led by Vienna-based iC Consulenten Ziviltechniker as winner in the international tender for the design of the Llogara tunnel, local media reported at the time.
The future tunnel will reduce driving time between Orikum and Palasa to just ten minutes from 55 minutes, which will result in an increase in the number of tourists in the area, infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku has said.
