January 17 (SeeNews) - Slovenian fuel retailer Petrol [LJE:PETG] said it has been chosen to carry out the first phase of an upgrade of the district heating system serving the Bulgarian capital Sofia, the biggest of its kind in the Balkan region and the second largest in Europe.
Petrol signed a deal to improve the technical and economic features of the system with the district heating company Toplofikacia Sofia on January 12, the Slovenian company said in a statement on Monday.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
The project aims to ensure a stable and quality supply of heating energy at the lowest possible cost, reduce energy loss and diversify production capacities, Petrol noted.
At the end of 2016, the Petrol Group operated 22 district heating systems.
