September 6 (SeeNews) - Serbian oil and gas company NIS [BEL:NIIS] said it has launched a 30 million euro ($33.5 million) amine plant at its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) unit in the northern town of Elemir.
The facility will improve the quality of domestically produced natural gas by removing carbon dioxide and other gaseous impurities from it through treatment with the chemical compound amine, while also increasing the volume of gas production, NIS said in a statement on Monday.
It is the first plant employing the High Pressure Acid Gas Capture Technology in Europe. Its exploitation will boost the company's business efficiency by saving up to 25% in heat, electricity, and raw materials compared to the technologies that were previously applied, NIS noted.
