September 30 (SeeNews) - Serbia's foreign trade deficit for the January-August period narrowed by 4.5% on the year to 2.6 billion euro ($2.6 billion), data from the country's statistics office showed on Friday.
The country's exports rose 9.3% on the year to 8.7 billion euro, while imports grew 5.8% to 11.3 billion euro, the data indicated.
The export-import ratio increased to 77.2% from 74.8% in the first eight months of 2015.
In August alone, exports increased by an annual 12.4% to 1.03 billion euro, while imports rose 10.8% to 1.4 billion euro.
Serbia’s main export markets in the first eight months of 2016 were Italy and Germany with $1.48 billion and $1.29 billion worth of exports, respectively, while most imports came from Germany ($1.62 billion), Italy ($1.32 billion), China ($1.03 billion) and Russia ($1.02 billion).
