December 18 (SeeNews) - The Serbian government said on Thursday that the Mihajlo Pupin bridge, spanning the Danube river between Belgrade's Zemun and Borca residential districts, has been officially opened for traffic.
The bridge, 1,507 metres long and 29.1 metres wide, took over three years to build and cost around $260 million (211 million euro), the government said in a statement after prime minister Aleksandar Vucic attended the commissioning ceremony.
China's Ex-Im Bank financed 85% of the construction costs with the Serbian government and the city of Belgrade financing the remainder with their own funds.
The bridge was built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation.
