July 20 (SeeNews) - Serbia and Kosovo achieved little progress at the latest high-level round of the talks on the normalisation of their relations, the EU envoy for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak said.
"The meeting was difficult and it demonstrated very different approaches of the two parties to the normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia," Lajcak said on Monday after the second meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic within the EU-facilitated dialogue, according to a statement by the EU External Action Service.
Several concrete proposals were discussed, but the only outcome is that the dialogue will continue, Lajcak said. "The parties agreed that their chief negotiators would hold meetings on a monthly basis, facilitated by the European Union, to address current issues and to prepare high-level meetings, when appropriate," he noted.
Additionally, both leaders agreed to meet again in September, Lajcak added.
"For us, the European Union, it is important to underline that the European future for Serbia and Kosovo depends on the normalisation of their relations. We, therefore, expect both parties to work together to overcome the legacy of the past and solve all outstanding issues between them," Lajcak said.
Vucic and Kurti held their first meeting to resume talks on the normalisation of relations on June 15, after the Kosovo prime minister took office on March 23.
