December 3 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Romania fell by 51% on the year to 5.654 million in the first ten months of 2020, the statistics board, INS said on Thursday.
Tourists spent 13.13 million overnights in Romania in the first ten months of 2020, down 50% year-on-year, INS said in a statement.
Foreign tourist numbers fell by an annual 82.2% to 418,100 during January-October.
In October alone, total tourist numbers fell by an annual 54.4%, as the number of foreign tourist was 89.7% lower on the year.
The new data includes the impact of the COVID-19 crisis and of the measures taken by the authorities to curb the spread of the virus. At the time of the research, some 452 units were closed due to COVID-19, INS added.
Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus disease in Romania reached 484,550 while the death toll rose to 11,665, latest data from authorities showed.

The number of tourists staying in Romania in 2019 rose 3.6% on the year to 13.26 million.
