October 15 (SeeNews) - The European Commission said on Friday has mobilised resources under the Civil Protection Mechanism to help Romania treat the high number of acute Covid-19 patients following a request for assistance from the Southeast European country.
The EU has mobilised 200 oxygen concentrators from the EU strategic medical stockpile hosted by the Netherlands, 50 oxygen concentrators from Poland and 5,200 vials of monoclonal antibodies from Italy, it said in a press release.
In addition, 15 ventilators and eight oxygen concentrators will be delivered from Denmark to Romania.
On Friday, the Romanian authorities reported 15,828 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total count to over 1.4 million. Of them,1.22 million have recovered. The death toll since the outbreak of the disease has climbed to 41,130, health ministry data showed.
Romania, with a population of 19 million, started its anti-coronavirus vaccination campaign on December 27. As of October 12, 5.82 million people have been vaccinated with the first dose, 5.56 million people have received both doses of the coronavirus vaccine, while 412,475 have received the third dose, official health ministry data showed.
