SKOPJE (North Macedonia), February 26 (SeeNews) – North Macedonia's gross electricity production decreased by an annual 9% to 5,346,472 MWh in 2020, the statistical office said, citing preliminary data.
Net electricity output fell by 8.5% year-on-year in 2020 - to 5,032,758 MWh, Makstat said in a statement on Thursday.
Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of the gross domestic electricity production last year. They generated 2,726,987 MWh, down 23.6% compared to 2019.
The group of cogeneration plants and auto-production thermal power stations followed with 1,144,625 MWh of electricity output, up 20% year-on-year.
Electricity generated by hydro power plants increased by 10% on the year to 1,277,144 MWh, while wind parks' output jumped by 15% to 116,884 MWh.
Biogas plants generated 57,297 MWh of electricity, up 4% year-on-year, whereas solar parks produced 23,536 MWh, up 1.3% on the year.
North Macedonia’s electricity imports rose by an annual 23% to 2,965,204 MWh in 2020. Electricity exports also increased, growing by 9.5% to 638,598 MWh.
Distribution losses rose by 5% on the year to 1,026,748 MWh in 2020.
In December alone, North Macedonia's gross electricity production decreased by an annual 5.6% to 498,292 MWh
