CHISINAU (Moldova), January 30 (SeeNews) – Moldova’s total agricultural output rose by 18.6% on the year in 2016, mainly due to a strong increase of vegetal production.
Vegetal production expanded 26% last year due to higher wheat, maize and sunflower output, the country's statistics office BNS said on Monday. Livestock production grew 3.1% in 2016.

Moldova's wheat output rose 40% on the year to an estimated 1.29 million tonnes last year from 922,000 tonnes a year before.
Sunflower output increased 39% to 590,000 tonnes in 2016, while maize output rose 29% to 1.3 million tonnes, the statistics office said.
In 2016, enterprises accounted for over 80% of the output of sugar beet, rapeseed, tobacco, sunflower and legumes outputs. Households accounted for 86% of the output of potatoes, 73% of grapes, 67% of maize, 96% of milk, 59% of meat and 57% of eggs outputs, BNS data showed.
