In 2007 more than 16 million passengers travelled in Slovenia by train and more than 812 million passenger-kilometres were performed. In comparison with 2006 the number of passengers in national transport slightly decreased, whereas in international transport it slightly increased.

Slightly fewer passengers in national transport, but more passengers in international transport
In 2007 more than 15.2 million passengers were carried in national transport. In comparison with 2006 this represents a 0.3% decrease, whereas the number of passenger in international transport increased by 4.0%. The number of passengers in international transport reached almost 891 thousand.
Passenger-kilometres in national and international transport performed increased as well in 2007 for 2.4% compared to 2006 and reached 812 million, of which 690 million passenger-kilometres in national transport.

Most passengers in international transport with Croatia and Austria
Most passengers who travelled by train from or to Slovenia were from Croatia, Austria, Germany, Serbia and Italy. The largest share of passengers travelling to or from Slovenia in international transport was in transport with Croatia (39%), Austria (18%) and Germany (9%). The share of Serbia and Italy was 8%. Slovenia conducted more than 82% of international passenger transport with these five countries.
With EU-27 countries Slovenia performed more than 45% of international passenger transport in 2007. With the remaining southeast Europe countries it performed more than 50%. Less than 5% of Slovenia's international passenger transport in 2007 was performed with all other countries.
