According to provisional data, in the 2nd quarter of 2008 the labour cost index in Slovenia grew by 7.4% over the same period a year before.

7.4% annual increase in the labour cost index
According to provisional data, in the 2nd quarter of 2008 the labour cost index in Slovenia grew by 64.6% over the average of the year 2000. Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2007 it was up by 7.4%; according to the Monthly report on Earnings by Legal Persons, in the same period average gross earnings went up by 8.6%. Seasonally adjusted figures show that in the 2nd quarter of 2008 the labour cost index grew by 7.3% over the same period a year before.

The lowest annual growth of the labour cost index in agriculture, hunting and forestry
Compared to the same period a year before, in the 2nd quarter of 2008 the labour cost index increased the most in mining and quarrying (by 29.4%) – because of less hours worked – and construction (by 15.8%), and the least in agriculture, hunting and forestry (by 0.2%) and health and social work (by 2.6%).

In the 1st quarter of 2008 the lowest annual growth of the labour cost index in Germany
According to Eurostat data, compared to the same period a year before in the 1st quarter of 2008 the labour cost index in industry and services (activities C to K of the NACE Rev. 1.1) increased the most in Latvia (by 33.3%), followed by Lithuania and Romania (by 26.2% and by 19.6%). In the same period the labour cost index increased the least in Germany (by 1.6%), followed by Sweden and France (by 2.2% and by 2.5%), while for Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands for this period data are not available. In the EU-27 the labour cost index was up by 4.3% and in Slovenia by 9.1%.
