"IKEA is interested to explore the possibility of making a greenfield investment," Mirko Cvetkovic told Reuters and added he expected IKEA officials to hold talks in Belgrade in the coming days to discuss details of the planned investment.
The IKEA Group, which owns 253 IKEA stores in 24 countries, has recently taken further steps for expansion in southeast Europe, approaching the Croatian municipality of Rugvica to build its first store in the Adriatic country. Greece's Fourlis, which owns a franchise of IKEA, also announced that it would open the first IKEA store in European Union newcomer Bulgaria by 2010.
