January 31 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign tourists who visited Montenegro in 2016 rose 6.6% on the year to 1.662 million, data from the country's statistics office showed on Tuesday.
The total number of tourists in the country in 2016 increased by an annual 5.9% to 1.813 million, the office said in a statement.
Tourist overnights in 2016 totalled 11.25 million, up 1.8% year-on-year.
In December alone, the number of foreign tourists who visited Montenegro stood at 19,310, up 2.1% on the year, and total number of tourists rose by to 9.5% to 26,623.
Tourist overnights totalled 96,262 in December, up 21.6%.
Visitors from Serbia accounted for 19.8% of all overnights in December, followed by nationals from Albania - (17.1%), Russia (9.3%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (6.9%), Croatia (5.9%), Italy (4.2%), and Kosovo (3.9%).
Seaside resorts attracted 76% of all tourists in December.
