BANJA LUKA (Bosnia and Herzegovina), October 6 (SeeNews) – The European Commission will co-finance the construction of the Svilaj bridge over the river Sava, connecting Croatia and Bosnia, with over 7 million euro ($7.8 million), the Croatian ministry of regional development said on Thursday.
The total value of the project is 22.3 million euro, as the costs will be split equally between the two countries, the ministry said in a statement.
Croatia has secured its share of the costs with the CEF - Connecting Europe Facility and a loan from the European Investment Bank.
The construction of the Svilaj bridge, which will connect the two countries via the pan-European transport Corridor Vc, began on September 14.
The bridge, 640 metres long and 29 metres wide, will have three lanes, as the deadline for its completion is two years.
In April, Croatian construction company Viadukt confirmed it has been awarded, in a tie-up with Bosnian peer Hering, a 22.3 million euro contract by the Croatian road authority, HAC. Under the contract, the tie-up will build a bridge over the river Sava between Bosnia and Croatia as well as the Svilaj-Odzak motorway section, Viadukt said at the time.
