February 19 (SeeNews) - China's government has approved a donation of 30,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Sinopharm to Montenegro, the Chinese embassy in Podgorica said.
"The Chinese government has decided to donate 30,000 doses of the Chinese vaccine against COVID-19 to the Montenegrin people in the near future, and support domestic vaccine manufacturers to talk to the Montenegrin authorities about the procurement of Chinese vaccines," the embassy said in a statement on Thursday.
Montenegro recently inquired about the possibility of importing vaccines from China, and the Chinese government wishes to meet the needs of its Montenegrin partners, the embassy said.
Earlier this week, Montenegro received 2,000 doses of Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine from Serbia. The delivery represents the first batch of a total of 4,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine to be donated to Montenegro by Serbia, the Montenegrin government said on Wednesday.
Montenegro's foreign minister Djordje Radulovic said earlier in February that the government has not yet received a single dose of COVID-19 vaccines approved by the EU, despite requests made to EU officials.
