BUCHAREST (Romania), November 26 (SeeNews) – Delivery service Cargus, formerly known as Urgent Cargus, said on Thursday that it has invested 7.4 million euro ($8.8 million) in a new warehouse in Dragomiresti-Deal, near Bucharest, in order to keep pace with increasing online orders.
The warehouse has a processing capacity of 20,000 parcels per hour, Cargus said in a press release.
Some 250 new jobs were generated by the new investment.
"The continuous growth of the market in recent years, but also the new context, which has generated a huge leap in the e-commerce market, are the main reasons behind the decision to invest in a new warehouse," Cargus CEO Jaroslaw Sliwa said.
Earlier this month, Cargus announced that plans to invest in a new sorting centre in the western city of Timisoara. In October, it said that it is looking to hire 1,000 to complement its existing team of 5,000 employees and partners.
Cargus has over 60 sorting centers and warehouses, 68 agencies and a fleet of over 2,600 courier vehicles.
In January 2019, Cargus was acquired by ME Partners Courier Investments from Polish fund Abris Capital.
Urgent Cargus was created in 2014 after Abris Capital bought local company Urgent Curier and merged it with the previously owned firm Cargus.
