December 4 (SeeNews) - The European Commission (EC) said it sent a couple of reasoned opinions to Croatia, urging it to correctly apply the European Union rules on providing EU-wide multimodal travel information services, as well as to implement the tunnel safety requirements.
The opinions were sent as part of the EC's December infringement package published on Thursday. Croatia is now given two months to reply to the opinions, or risk being sent to the Court of Justice of the EU.
In the reasoned opinion on the correct application of the rules on providing multimodal travel information services the EC noted that this will help provide travellers with an overview of all travel options available to them, while highlighting the most sustainable ones.
In the other reasoned opinion, the EC urged Croatia and several other EU states to fully implement the directive on minimum safety measures relating to the infrastructure and operation of tunnels.
"The Member States concerned have not implemented the full set of required measures to ensure the highest safety standards in certain tunnels falling within this scope," the Commission said.
In addition, the EU's executive body sent two letters of formal notice to Croatia, urging it to improve the energy performance of buildings, as well as the basic safety standards on radiation protection. The country is given two months to comply with its legal obligations, otherwise the Commission may decide to send it reasoned opinions.
