January 13 (SeeNews) - Serbia's main airport, in Belgrade, serviced record-high 4,924,992 passengers in 2016, up 3% year-on-year, slightly below the five million passengers target set earlier this year, according to data from airport operator Aerodrom Nikola Tesla [BEL:AERO].
The number of takeoffs and landings at the airport edged up 0.2% to 58,633 and cargo volume increased 7% to 13,939 tonnes, figures posted on the website of the airport show.
Passengers traffic at Belgrade airport exceeded the record-high volume booked in all of 2015 eleven days before the close of 2016, Aerodrom Nikola Tesla said last month.
In December alone, Belgrade airport handled 344,193 passengers, up 12% on the year, as the number of takeoffs and landings increased by 4% to 4,269. The cargo traffic, on the other hand, declined by 16% to 1,375 tonnes.
The net profit of the airport operator rose by 22% on the year to 21.6 million euro ($23 million) in the first ten months of 2016.
In July, Aerodrom Nikola Tesla said it expected a full-year profit of 26 million euro to 30 million euro and five million passengers in 2016.
