Romania and the European Comission will jointly finance a 7.9 million euro ($11.1 million) project for the construction of 4.225 kilometres of by-pass road that woud become part of EU-defined transport corridor IX. Romanian company Romstrade will build the four-lane by-pass road near the Danube city of Giurgiu, in southern Romania, and will upgrade another 3.8 kilometres of road after winning an international tender. The European Union will provide 5.2 million euro of the funding and Romania will come up with the remaining 2.7 million.
