April 18 (SeeNews) - Romanian power grid operator Transelectrica [BSE:TEL] said it has launched two tenders with an estimated total value of 296 million lei ($63.5 million/59.5 million euro) for the construction of two 400 kV overhead power lines.
One of the tenders calls for the construction of a 37.4 km power line worth an estimated 137 million lei between Constanta and Medgidia, in southeastern Romania, Transelectrica said in a tender notice on Wednesday. The power line must be completed within 30 months, with bidders being able to submit offers until June 10, 2024.

The second tender, estimated at 159 million lei, envisages the contruction at a 142 km cross-border overhead power line between Romania’s northeastern city of Suceava and Moldova’s city of Balti, with the submission deadline set for June 3, according to a separate tender notice published last week. Works on that line must be completed within 52 months.
The North Constanta-South Medgidia project is financed by non-reimbursable funds from the EU’s Modernisation Fund, while the Suceava-Balti power line is awaiting evaluation for funding under the same programme. The North Constanta-South Medgidia project aims to enhance the national power grid in alignment with anticipated requirements for production, consumption, and trade. The grid in southeast Romania is currently operating at full capacity, according to latest data published on Transelectrica’s website.
The Suceava-Balti power line is mainly aimed at the integration of new renewable energy capacities, the facilitation of cross-border trade and the optimal evacuation of the energy output.
Both projects must be covered by a minimum warranty of five years.
Transelectrica’s grid development plan for the 2022-2031 period is backed by 1.4 billion euro ($1.5 billion) in financing, of which approximately 500 million euro are to be disbursed through the EU’s Modernisation Fund and REPowerEU, the grid operator said in a press release on Tuesday.
Transelectrica shares changed hands 0.17% higher at 29.2 lei as at 1408 CET on April 18 on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
