April 5 (SeeNews) - Croatia’s capital Zagreb said it will invest 85 million euro ($92 million) in a cultural centre comprising a library, a 450-seat event hall and commercial venues.
Some 40 million euro of the total value of the project are planned to be covered by EU funds and the remainder will be financed through a loan from the European Investment Bank, the city authorities said on Thursday.
This is the city's largest investment in culture to date, mayor Tomislav Tomasevic was quoted as saying.
The centre, covering almost 36,000 square metres, will be built on the location of a former industrial facility in the centre of Zagreb which has been neglected for more than 40 years.
It will include an underground parking lot for 350 cars.
The construction works start will next week and are scheduled to be completed in two years.
The main contractor for this project is local construction company Kamgrad, the construction company said on its Linkedin profile.
